Napoleon in America was the headline story in the February 27th edition of Shannon’s hometown newspaper, The Biggar Independent. Shannon was born and raised in the farming and railroad community of Biggar, Saskatchewan (population 2,200), where her father taught high school. The town is best known for its slogan: New York is big, but this is Biggar. Shannon still considers Biggar “home.”
Selin consulted over 300 sources to make the novel a plausible whopper.
